Dry Eye Testing

Do your eyes feel sandy or gritty? Or do they water for no particular reason? If so you may have dry eye disease. Dry eye disease occurs when your tear quality or quantity is abnormal. We have specialized diagnostic tests, as well as state of the art treatment for dry eye disease. Dry eye diagnostic testing with the IDRA includes meibography, tear film analysis and blepharitis assessment. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) has been shown to relieve dry eye symptoms through its thermal action, by melting away thick oil clogging up the meibomian glands; IPL also shrinks the fine blood vessels on the lid margin that carry inflammatory factors, and helps reduce sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles by boosting production of skin firming proteins like collagen and elastin. During IPL treatment the pulses may cause a snapping sensation and warmth; following your treatment brown spots will darken and skin may appear red for up to 24 hours, and your improved complexion should be visible three weeks post treatment. Best results typically require 4-5 treatments spaced one month apart. The Radio Frequency (RF) procedure generates heat at an optimal temperature within the eyelid tissue, melting the oil that is clogging the glands so it can be expressed easily; as a bonus, RF reduces skin laxity and promotes collagen growth, resulting in wrinkle reduction.
